Supporting Subsistence

Hikurangi Huataukina Trust and Hikurangi Enterprises are supporting a series of learning opportunities with whānau who are living off the land and sea, or want to live a more sustainable lifestyle.

The first two day workshop in August 2016 saw seven participants undertake basic chainsaw training and achieve qualifications to use chainsaws safely in the workplace. Most of the group just want to be able to harvest firewood safely for their whānau.

Further workshops planned include firearms licensing, basic butchering, renewable electricity generation, gardening using permaculture principles, beekeeping and fruit tree pruning.

To get notices about these opportunities keep a look out on the Facebook page of Hikurangi Huataukina Trust or register below and let us know what other learning opportunities for sustainable lifestyles you’re interested in.
